An initial career in teaching covered work in Primary, Secondary and Higher education, the latter as Senior Lecturer at Lady Mabel College of Education in Yorkshire. After turning freelance, Christopher Wiltshire became involved in the professional theatre in London (including the West End) and the South-east, before moving to Sheffield where for several years he worked at the Crucible Theatre composing incidental music, arranging and directing musicals and pantomimes. He has continued to produce a stream of commissioned works for a variety of choirs, orchestras and ensembles throughout the country. Always a practising musician, his conducting engagements have included the award-winning Sheffield Chamber Orchestra and renowned male voice choirs on Tyneside (Felling) and in Yorkshire - Bolsterstone MVC were National Champions during his tenure. His chamber recital work as pianist has been another feature of his varied career.
Dr. Wiltshire has maintained strong links with music education (and associated curricular developments) through his work as an examiner world-wide for Trinity College London and through his engagements at competitive festivals - he is currently one of the country's busiest adjudicators. As former archivist for the British Federation of Festivals, he has produced a fully illustrated history of the competitive movement. His work on the history of male choirs remains unique.
