Q. How much customizing can you offer?

A. As much or as little as you want. Taking the woodwind section of the Schumania pieces as an example, an obvious adaptation would be to add a second oboe, drop the third clarinet and add a second bassoon to establish the normal 2222 layout. But remember that the customizing is not just on personnel - you could ask for a very straightforward second oboe part or a more challenging first clarinet.

Q Can I specify percussion instruments?

A. By all means. The amount of orchestral percussion available in school orchestras varies enormously. Always bear in mind the style and period of the work in question - a xylophone in Brahms would hardly be appropriate!

Q. What about the copyright issues?

A. There are none for you to worry about. The copyright on the arrangements remains with Wiltsmusic and I would not expect you to pass on copies to another person. As regards the composers, they have all been dead for more than 70 years.

Q. Would there be any Performing Right complications?

A. No, because all of my arrangements are registered with the Performing Right Society and so, if you are performing in a PRS licensed venue, the details would be entered on the return form in the normal way.

Q. How long is delivery?

A. That would depend on the extent of the customising but generally I expect to send out score and parts within two weeks of receipt of order.

Q. How much does the service cost?

A. Again, that depends how much work is to be done and the length of the piece. Also, I supply either a full set of parts (including multiple string parts) or single parts with permission to photocopy. As a guide, the score and parts (single strings) of the five-movement Schumania suite as it stands would be £70 - with customizing as mentioned above, the price would be £80. All prices include P&P.

Q. Can I commission a new arrangement for my school orchestra?

A. Certainly, although this obviously includes rather more work and is therefore more expensive - I work to MU rates but with a hefty discount for schools. But if there are particular pieces you would like to play - and bearing in mind copyright matters - I would be delighted to undertake specific commissions.
